Shrink Plastic is Fun.

June 20th, 2014

I’ve been wanting to try shrink plastic for a bit now, and now I have!

1. How much does it shrink?

This design of the hippo before baking in the oven was measured at 3.25".

After three minutes at 350F, it shrunk down to 1.25".

It shrunk 62%!!

2. The instructions said to use permanent markers and paint so that’s what I used with the hippo… but I thought I’d try water soluble ink just to see what happens.

It looked great but the ink was sticky sporadically. Matte finish coating takes care of that. I like the finish of these printed ones with block printing ink than the drawn ones with permanent ink. It has a much richer feel to them. Chic. I made them into brooches / pins.  If you would like, they are here: http://etsy.me/UXtCA9

Shrink plastic is fun. I think there are many possibilities with this. The only issue I had was with the fumes while baking. I recommend to wear masks like this:
